Fun and Games at the presidential Palace - 10-02-2009

As work for 2012 Games in London gets into full swing, the Olympic Flame shone brightly one February Friday night in La Robertsau.

Mike Wraith admits that in volunteering to host an ESC Games Evening, he wasn’t quite sure how it would work out. But he needn’t have worried : people just turned up with the intention of enjoying themselves and then proceeded to do just that—all in the most civilised way of course.

Prevailing weather conditions caused the pingpong to be cancelled ( too cold in the basement ) so the main activities of the night were Darts, Monopoly and the intriguing Dutch Shuffle Board—as well as the X Box video games preferred by the junior contingent.

There was of course also plenty of opportunity to just sit and enjoy a drink and a chat. For the record, Monopoly was won by ruthless tycoon Jean Fisch ; the highest score on the Shuffle Board was by Daniel Wraith, and the Darts players demonstrated a roughly equal degree of incompetence so that a simple game of 301 took ( what seemed like ) several hours.

At the end of a thoroughly enjoyable evening the Olympic Spirit was happily intact. You should start now to get down to some serious training for the next occasion.
